Wednesday @ The Stock Show

The Denver heat wave continues...

After the high of 64 degrees yesterday; we expect a high of 58 today. The only difference is that today is expected to be partly cloudy but the sunscreen will still be required. The unseasonal warm weather is scheduled to break overnight as a front moves in lowering the expected high will go to 42 tomorrow with a chance of flurries. The extended forecast is still 45 to 55 degrees for the duration.

The move in on The Hill ran into the late night and early morning hours on Tuesday and Wednesday even with the patience of exhibitors (which ran thin based on the hour) the method is far from perfect. Here is a novel idea- How about setting up an In-Ticket System stamped with the time like you have at the airport parking garage? As you pull in with the truck and trailer you start at $25 for the first 15 minutes raise the price another $15 dollars for every 15 minutes thereafter. Then simply hand your punch card off and get charge for the amount of time that you took to unload. This would promote people being organized and penalize the "bone heads" who park and tie up the unloading spot for far too long. Just an idea.

Today the showring activities begin for the Hereford breed with the junior show starting at 2 P.M. We have four heifers from our showstring being shown today by Mallorie Phelps of Texas, Patrick Duddy from New Jersey and Blaklee Hayes from Oklahoma. We wish each of them and all the Star Lake Junior customers the best of luck under the eye of Judge Kurt Thomas.

The Yards also remain a great hub of Hereford activity leading up to the Pen and Carload shows tomorrow. Based on info from the AHA there are 30 pens and 6 carloads to be evaluated. These shows begin at 9 A.M. on Thursday morning with the Pen of 3 Heifers up first followed by the Carloads and then wrapping up with the Pen of 3 Bulls. As people come and go in The Yard you see all types and kinds (cattle & people). We have added some pictures below to give you a look into what is going on.

More tomorrow!

The Crew fine tuning the Carload.

The Hill Cattle resting before the big move.

The cooks making sandwiches for the crew and others (boy where they good)

Then we found out that clowns can not catch sandwiches very well!!!!!
