The sunny skies of Denver continue to shine down on Hereford breeders as they prepare for the start of Hereford activates at the National Western Stock Show.
Temperatures today are expected to top out at near 60 degrees and the exhibitors love it! It was interesting to see fans being setup in The Yards to keep air moving on the cattle. The forecast is still calling for a cool down to the mid to high 40's and a 20% chance of snow flurries on Thursday.
The Hereford Association crew did a very efficient check in utilizing the EID tag system. The check in was done at the stalls and eliminated the need to moving a lot of cattle to a central location. What a great use of technology that reinforces the need for all of us to utilize the tools available to maximize efficiency.
We want to thank McCaskell Farms of Illinois for their purchase of STAR Limited Edition 30W ET who was one of the two bulls that we have had listed for sale in The Yards. He is a son of Legacy out of the Carla cow and will be part of our 2010 carload. Thank you Randy & Matt for your purchase.
There is still one bull in the carload that is looking for a home and he is STAR Ring of Fire 145W ET and you can check out his pedigree, pictures and video by Clicking Here.
In response to e-mailed questions... we have a total of 22 head in Denver; 10 for the Carload and 12 on The Hill. To prepare for the show we have a crew of a dozen but with show day fast approaching another dozen are arriving over the next 24 hours.
Today we will start the process of moving in up on The Hill. Hopefully all exhibitors will stay calm and allow the system to work and realize that some of the process takes time. I don't see any new technology here allowing for more efficiency. Perhaps a "virtual" cattle show that is judged based on pictures, videos and pedigree only....leave the cattle and equipment behind...hmmmmm if that's the case a cruise ship or island even works well as a venue!
Tomorrow is the start of the show activities with the Junior Show starting at 2 p.m. The judge for tomorrow will be Kurt Thomas and he is sure to have a great task in judging a fantastic group of cattle exhibited by some of the best Juniors in the cattle industry. Good luck to all of the exhibitors.
That's the update for today. We will try to add some pictures tomorrow. If you have any questions just shoot us an e-mail.
