Thursday @ The Stock Show

The weather has turned after a beautiful Wednesday; the minor cold front has arrived. Today calls for a cool down that is not nearly as bad as projected with the expected high to be 47! To go along with the good news the chance of flurries has hopefully moved to the south.

Today's activities move back down to The Yards where the Heifer Pen of 3 show starts at 9 A.M. followed by the Carloads and finishing up with Bull Pen of 3. The men in charge of evaluating all of these great Hereford cattle are Rance Long, Mark Aiken and Joe Bennett.

The Junior Heifer Show was held yesterday afternoon and Judge Kurt Thomas had a very strong group of females to evaluate. There were 51 entries in the Horned Show and they where first up. The Grand Champion Horned Heifer was shown by Karlee Osborne from Illinois and the Reserve Grand was shown by Mitchell Tucker of Nebraska.

In the Polled Heifer Show there where a total of 75 entries and over two-thirds were in the very competitive first division - Polled Heifer Calf. This division consisted of six classes. Mallorie Phelps showing STAR KKH HCC Venus 385W ET won the first class and returned STAR KKH SSF Mirror Image 286W to win the third class as well.  In the sixth class of this division both Blakelee Hayes of Oklahoma and Patrick Duddy of New Jersey made their Denver debut appearances. Blakelee showed STAR H Southern Reign 39W ET to third place and Patrick led STAR KKH SSF Omega 12W ET to a sixth place spot.

Mallorie then led Mirror Image into the winners circle as she won this very competitive first Division of the Polled Show.

In the final class of the day the Howe brothers from Pennsylvania led their Star Lake heifers to a first and fourth place finish. Austin was first in class with STAR Rikka Spirit 179U ET and Andre was fourth with STAR Klairabelle 73U ET.  Both of these were champion and reserve champions in last years Star Lake Junior Heifer Futurity.

When all was said and done with the Championship drive the Grand Champion in the Polled show was Blake Tucker from Nebraska and the Reserve was Mallorie Phelps with her purchase from our Fall Celebration Sale, Mirror Image!

CONGRATS TO ALL OF THE JUNIOR EXHIBITORS!!!

Finally the Hereford Herdsman Party was held last night in the Pepsi Arena in The Yards. This great social activity includes food, drink and Hereford Fellowship. This event also raises funds for the Herdsman Scholarship. Another successful event this year.

That is all for now - we will give you the results from the yards tomorrow.
