Hereford breeders from across North America have made the trek to the National Western Complex in Denver for the Super Bowl of cattle expos.
The weather in Denver starts today with a 20 degree wake-up call, but is headed to near 50 at mid day. The balmy temperature forecast continues through the week with tomorrows high expected near 60! Forget that Florida beach vacation...come to the heat in Denver. Balance of the week is expecting the mid to high forties with a chance of flurries on Thursday - Carload & Pen Show day.
The Yards are a hub of Hereford activity as breeders set up their pens for the carload, pen and display cattle. The move-in has been efficient and pretty trouble free. With the warm up in temperatures the snow and ice are quickly disappearing. The warm weather also makes the washing and blow out of the cattle much easier.
The Star Lake pens in the Yard are in our traditional spot on the main aisle in row 14. Stop in to take a look as the talented Star Lake crew prepares our 2010 Carload candidates. Many of these same genetics are being offered in our Stock Show Connection Internet Sale that starts on Thursday, January 14th. To check out these exciting Internet Sale lots being offered CLICK HERE.
The overall atmosphere is upbeat and similar to a family reunion as folks make the rounds and catch-up on the talk of the cold and "global warming". There looks to be an increase in the Hereford numbers and AHA has confirmed that entries are up slightly from last year that set record numbers. There also seems to be a significant increase in Canadian cattle making the trip. An overall great opportunity to check out the latest in Hereford genetics and individual breeder philosophies.
The Hereford Association Hospitality Area is getting setup on the main floor of the Livestock Exchange Building and is a great stopping spot. In addition to the bottomless coffeepot (and some really fantastic coffee cups!) you can buy Hereford apparel & merchandise and visit the sponsoring breeder's booths. We have a supply of goodies and a new signup sheet at the Star Lake booth...so stop in. The Hereford Hospitality Area will be open from 9 am to 6 pm Wednesday through Saturday.
Move-in on the Hill is scheduled for Tuesday. For a complete schedule of National Western Hereford activities look in the Events section of our website.
More tomorrow....Go Hereford!!!
