I know that the last thing many of you want to hear about is the weather but it seems that this year it has been the topic of more and more conversations. As I write this we are bracing for another snow storm in Iowa with five plus inches predicted. The Oklahoma crew was scheduled for picture taking today but rain and thunderstorms are making that doubtful.
But as I look around me Spring is indeed on the horizon. While "officially" eleven days away there are many telltale signs for those in the cattle business. The first to come to mind is it's calving time and there is nothing better than seeing a pasture of baby calves. Call me partial but I think a white faced Hereford baby is the best of the bunch. Today we calved number 247Y so at the moment we are about three fourths complete on the 2011 Spring calf crop. With the extremes in the weather this year in NE Oklahoma again a big thank you goes to our outstanding Star Lake crew especially Brad and Dustin.
The mailbox is starting to see the arrival of sale catalogs - another indication of the changing season. Daylight Savings Time is my final clue that Spring has Sprung. Heck I don't know about you but I don't just need another hour of daylight....I need more hours in the day!!!
