We will have a more detailed sale report later but until then here are a few of the highlights -
Thank you to all who supported Star Lake in our Fall Ranch Ready Bull Sale and Fall Celebration Female Sale on Oct. 16th. It was a beautiful day with a nice crowd on hand in the sale ring and an active contingent bidding through Superior Livestock and LiveAuctions.tv
The demand for the quality Herefords was hot as the bulls averaged $7,938 and the females $8,159. Leading the high sellers was Lot 104 STAR Shock Wave 13Y ET, a January 2011 calf sired by 2-time Denver Supreme Champion STAR TCF Shock & Awe 158W ET. DeLHawk Cattle Co., Janesville, Wis., and Earlville, Ill., purchased a quarter interest over the internet for $50,000. An additional in-herd breeding interest in Shock Wave was purchased by The Shock Wave Group for $65,000.
The female sale was equally exciting, and that sale roster was also topped by a Shock & Awe calf. She was STAR KKH SSF Olive Awe 323Y ET, a May heifer out of 3-time National Champion Olivia. Her buyers at $57,000 were Randy & Troy Jones, Harrod, Ohio.
Another fancy show prospect drew intense interest. STAR Impassable Dream 80Y ET, a Golden Oak Outcross daughter out of a Star Lake Online daughter brought $46,000 from the Stumpf Family of Gen-Lor Polled Herefords, Columbia, Ill.
Moss Land & Cattle, Powell Butte, Ore., purchased a number of premium lots including donor cow STAR KKH SSF Keyloni 44 ET for $29,000. Moss also bought the Lot 108 bull, STAR KKH SSF Keyshawe 147Y ET, for $15,250 for a third interest. Another top selling bull was Lot 116, STAR KCL Cumberland 276Y ET purchased by Harrison Cattle, Arapaho, Okla.
The Lot 1 heifer, STAR She's Awe Charisma 19Y ET, came in at $28,000, going to new breeder 216 Ranch, Fairland, Okla.
While the high sellers took the headlines, there were plenty of affordable, quality Herefords purchased through the sale with 40% of the female lots and 42% of the bull lots selling at or under $3,500.
